About Dragon Name Generators
What this site is
Dragon Name Generators is a free tool for D&D players and dungeon masters, fantasy writers, and worldbuilders who need a dragon name, and something better than a random string of syllables to back it up. The site covers dragons specifically rather than fantasy names in general: the main generator builds names by naming culture, element, gender, and tone; a dedicated generator handles dragonborn player characters under the current 2024 D&D rules; another handles dragon bosses and NPCs for tabletop campaigns; and a reference page collects organized, sourced female dragon names alongside real mythological figures like Tiamat and Echidna.
How the naming engine works
Every generated name is an original construction, not a translation and not pulled from any existing book, game, or show. Each naming culture on the site (Norse-influenced, Chinese-influenced, Japanese-influenced, Celtic-influenced, and a High Draconic epic-fantasy style) is built from a bank of prefix and suffix fragments chosen for real phonetic conventions associated with that tradition, combined client-side in your browser with a short constructed meaning attached to the result. Nothing you type into a generator is sent to a server; name construction happens entirely on your device.
How D&D and mythology claims are verified
Where this site makes a factual claim, current D&D 5e rules, mythology background, dragon type and damage associations, it's checked against primary or well-corroborated secondary sources at the time the page is built, logged internally with the source and date checked, and revisited when rules change or a claim passes twelve months old. If a claim can't be traced to a real, checkable source, it gets left off the page rather than included as a guess.
